International Women’s Day celebrated
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Mother comes first, said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh, while referring to mythologies on the status of women.
They are always respected and regard with highest esteem. They have huge responsibilities towards the society and as a mother, wife, daughter and sister, we have very important role in making the society a better place for every individual, he added. He was interacting with women activists, leaders and achievers on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Raj Bhavan here today. I have great pleasure in extending my greetings and best wishes to the Arunachalees for their continued success on the special occasion.
State First Lady Anupama Singh, who also spoke on the occasion, congratulated women achievers of the year and hoped that they will be role model for every Arunachalee woman. This year, ‘The Day’, she pointed, is even more special, as this is the 100th year of its observation. The Day also reminds us of our responsibilities towards the society, she added
Advocating for equal rights and opportunities for women, Singh said, ideal society can be realized if women have the equal rights and position to their male counterpart. For this, we need to improve the quality of life of our womenfolk. She appealed every concerned citizen and elites of the community for provided equal opportunities to women.

Administration wake up to control price rise
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Concerned over soaring prices of essential commodities, city administration has been contemplating to fix reasonable price against various essential items being sold in the markets of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa.
The administration, meanwhile, asked the various market welfare committees of above mentioned areas and Arunachal Chamber of Commerce to submit the findings and recommendation of the committees formed to assess the existing prices and commodities being sold in those markets by March 10 for discussion and fixing the rate.
It may be mentioned here that, this newspaper had recently highlighted a brief scenario of the present market prices of few commodities.
RGUSU reacts to VC’s statement
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Reacting sharply to the Vice Chancellor’s clarification on their

Stating that the University has made no any headway in term of infrastructural development during last three years, the RGUSU in a release said that the present VC had promised renaming of the university to Arunachal university long back but did not take up it for placing before the respective councils.
The VC himself had announced to convert this University into a World Class University during 2008 which included the construction of world class multipurpose students activities centre and guest house. But it is unfortunate to see that all his promise remained in dream only, the union claimed.
The RGUSU claimed that just after his joining in 2007, the VC had promised to improve the classroom infrastructure. But present sad state of affairs of classroom itself speaks of callous and carelessness, it said.
Despite of our repeated demand for the constitution of the University Court, the VC has never taken up any initiation to place the demands before the AC & EC during his three years tenure, the union alleged.
Regarding ‘answer script scandal’ the union said there should be an Inquiry Committee constituted by EC for strict action.
Improve law and order in Doimukh: NCP
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, particularly in Doimukh area of the Capital Complex, Nationalist Congress Party, Arunachal Pradesh has urged the state Govt to deploy more and more police personnel in Doimukh township to control the law and order problem of Doimukh township in order to provide social security to the masses.
Calling upon the state Govt to accord top most priority on social security of the people, NCP state unit president Ngurang Pinch in a press statement today also appealed the concerned citizens of Doimukh township to cooperate with the local administration so that law and order problem is maintained strictly for the peace, progress and prosperity of the township.
Pointing out the reported looting off a Doimukh trader at gun point, ransacking of the house of Gania Lazi, DDSE Papum Pare District and destruction of property by miscreants, Pinch said Doimukh has turned into a epicenter of violence as it has been witnessing numbers of cases of looting, robbery, ransacking, stone felting at Police Station and burning of vehicles in the open market.
While condemning all such criminal activities, Pinch said “it is observed that there is a total failure of the Government administration, machineries and absence of coordination may be one of the reasons of law and order problem”.
Capital rivers become dumping ground for waste products

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: At a time when cities across the world are busy in cleaning the rivers flowing through it, in our state’s capital region nobody including administration, NGOs and public seem to care about status of numerous rivers.

A number of rivers now look more like drain with all kind of waste products being dumped on them. One of them is Lagun River which flows through the centre of Naharlagun town. This river has become heavily polluted with people living nearby disposing all sorts of their household waste products into it. Even many commercial establishments located in the vicinity of this small river are using it as dumping ground for their leftovers and waste products.
Most of the concerned citizens blame capital complex administration for the present sorry plight of this river.
“In recent day’s city administration carried out various cleanliness drive but they overlooked rivers which need urgent attention as every passing day they are becoming alarmingly polluted. If authorities do not act in right time soon a day will come when rivers of capital will turn into drains,” told one resident of Naharlagun.
Another river which needs attention of authorities is Senki River which flows through Itanagar town. This river too has become quite polluted because of relentless discarding of waste materials by residents living along it.
During New Year season this river bears the brunt of picnic goers.
Also at the lower reaches especially in Chandranagar area, all the private buses
converge for cleaning which also cause pollution. “In some areas, Senki River is
loitered with plastic bottles, beer cans, human excreta, etc. Earlier we used to
go there during summer to get respite from hot weather but now because of high pollution
there are chances of us being infected with water-
There are other rivers too which need urgent attention of city authorities.
If waste products loitered in these rivers is not cleaned they may block or alter course leading to floods during rainy days. With monsoon season not very far, authorities need to take serious note of waste products being dumped on rivers of capital.
In the last few months capital administration has been singing about beautification of capital region with various cleanliness programmes but it is strange how they did not include river as part of it. Rivers are lifeline of any cities and it is duty of authorities along with citizens to maintain their purity.
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The proposed Dandi March prog scheduled to be held at Changlang district HQ on March 14, has been postponed to April 8.

WAKRO, Mar 8: The women in North East have the potential to lead the society. They should be provided full educational opportunities, said A.C. Sharma, former foreign secretary of India in his message on the occasion of International Women's Day celebration in Wakro today.
Expressing her views, Kavit Sharma, former Principal, Hindu college, Delhi said that girls education is the key to national development. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, she also said that when you educate a man you educate an individual, but when you educate a woman you educate a family.
Sarita Theen, teacher, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Wakro gave an outline of the history of Women's Day. Keerthi Rawat, teacher, Apna Vidya Bhavan also spoke on the occassion.
The highlight of the day was a written quizz competition for the women in Wakro circle, focussing on all time women achivers. Rashmi Krisikro, Bursar Apna Vidya Bhavan bagged the first prize. Sailensy Krisikro and Mamoni Gogoi, both teachers of KGBV won the second and the third prize respectively.

Tuki visits Yachuli Govt College
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: PWD and UD Minister Nabam Tuki visied the permanent site of Government College, Yachuli on his way to Deed on Mar 8.
He was accompanied by local MLA Likha Saaya and a host of officers and public leaders.
During the informal interaction while expressing his concern over inordinate delay in the completion of buildings, he also opined that such major infrastructure development of a new college cannot be done under state’s plan alone. Hence, he asked the executive engineer, Yazali Division (PWD) to prepare a comprehensive DPR for funding from DONER or Tribal Affairs ministries. He also assured to allocate some fund for linking road from main road to college campus.
MLA Likha Saaya requested the visiting minster to pay special attention to the overall infrastructure development of this college as it caters to the needs of the people from far and wide for pursuing higher education.
Dr. N. T. Rikam, Principal of the college highlighted the urgency of early completion of the basic infrastructures requirement like class room, administrative building, hostels etc as the college has to be shifted to its permanent site in the coming academic session.
AAPWU pleads for regularization of group C&D secretariat contingency staff
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) has appealed the Commissioner, general administration, State Govt to absorb the contingency group C & D staff of Arunachal Pradesh Secretariat in regular posts.
In a letter to the Commissioner, the AAPWU said such staff has been rendering their services for more than 10 to 20 years sincerely and with devotion although they get only meager amount in the name of salary.
Pointing out that similar regularization of contingency staff has been made in 2003 vide order No. ESH(A)03/96 AT 25/7/03, the union said that the sympathetic action of the Commissioner will save some devoted contingency staff of the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Secretariat who have otherwise crossed their qualifying age limit of good service.

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: 35 days NABARD sponsored Skill Development training programme on Handloom at Namsai and Wakro concluded on Mar 3 and 4 respectively.
Altogether 25 women trainees selected from adjoining villages like Enten, Manmow, Pathergaon, Wingko and Namsai benefited from the Namsai programme conducted at the Community Hall, Manmow village.
Master Trainer Nang Chetuwa Longchot from Manmow village imparted training on the latest design on handloom products. Guest faculty from Namsai and Doom Dooma took classes on weekly basis.
A.K. Pasrija, Deputy General Manager, NABARD while interacting with the trainees assured for supporting better marketing facilities for the artisans. H.P. Biswas, President, National Youth Project assured all the artisans for direct marketing through NYP in the different location in India and abroad.

NEEPCO donates computers, conducts medical camp

A medical camp was also organised by the NEEPCO medical team at the school campus for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages who availed free medical check up and medicine. HGB’s death mournedLaudable endeavour
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: All Mengio Students’ Union and All Mengio Market Welfare Association have mourned the untimely death of Nabam Tadap, HGB of Pan panchayat under Mengio circle, who breathed his last on March six after a prolonged illness.
He was around 50 and survived by four wives, two sons and as many daughters.
